In Depth
Zentric is dramatically improving Pressto on a weekly basis: we are constantly adding major features and vastly enhancing the workflow and ease of use of all tools. A comprehensive list of features as of December 2011 follows.
Sound
Pressto features a comprehensive use of sound for your Book Apps. Great use of sound makes your books feel livelier and enhances feedback on all interactive elements. Pressto allows you to set custom ambient sounds, narrations, sounds that will play when the reader taps on an area, sound for interface elements and functions (buttons, special options) and even Soundtracks with many songs that may play when the reader experiences your Book Apps.
Setting Sounds
On each Page
You may set up sounds that will play when entering a page. These sounds may play simultaneously so you can, for instance, record an “ambient” track for mood and effects and include “narrations” in several languages. You can also allow the reader to RECORD their own narration track, so parents can read a book to their children with their own voices for a more familiar voice or to translate the text to a language your book does not support.
- Ambient Sounds
- Narration Tracks (Voiceover)
- User Recordable Narrations
On a certain image or area of the page
Tap to play the sound effect or music you choose.
Customizable Sound effects for Pressto Controls
You may assign your own custom sounds that will play when the reader taps on certain controls such as: Zoom Image – Collapse image – Custom Button – Send email Button – Web link button and more…
Global Sound for the Book app
Pressto! Books may feature a Soundtrack (up to 10 tracks) that may play when reading the book. There’s a standard music control that the user may tap to control featuring song name and skip to next or previous song.
Multiple Languages
Voiceover tracks may be available in several languages.
Images
One of the beauties of Pressto! is that it allows you to set the exact page layout you want, positioning images (and text) precisely where you want them. Each image is an object within the page… Pressto! doesn’t “rasterize” the page creating a big, heavy image to display. This is very powerful as the objects can be combined and effects can be applied.
Image Features
Multilayered images and moving backgrounds on pages
Images can be placed on top of each other and backgrounds can have subtle movements to make the pages come alive.
Image Blend effect
Pressto! supports image blending with dozens of blending modes.
Darken – Normal – Multiply – Screen – Overlay – Lighten – Color Dodge
Color Burn – Soft Light – Hard Light – Difference – Exclusion – Hue – Saturation
Color - Luminosity - Clear - Copy – Source In – Source Out – Source Atop
Destination Over – Destination In – Destination Out – Destination Atop
XOR – Plus Darker – Plus Lighter
Zoom
Two zooming methods are supported:
For smaller images the most effective method is “pinch to zoom”.
When you want to display really big images efficiently you may want to use “tiled images”, a method commonly used for maps online that improves performance and memory management at any reduction the user wants.
Image Rotation
When zooming an image with “pinch to zoom” the user can also freely rotate the image on screen with a clockwise or counterclockwise movement of both fingers.
Galleries
Pressto allows positioning as many Image Galleries as you want anywhere on any page. Galleries can be full screen or smaller. The reader can view images in the gallery just by swiping right or left. You may assign names to images that may be displayed and even an indicator that shows the number of images in the Gallery.
Move Images
Pressto!’s Free Move option for Images allows readers to reposition the image anywhere they want by dragging them with their fingers.
Video
Pressto allows positioning of countless multimedia elements on the same page, including full page or smaller Videos.
Video Features
Autoplay
Movies may be set up so they will aotomatically play when entering a page that includes a video.
Tap to play
You can also set up a movie to play only if the reader taps on it.
Show and hide player controls
A setting allows you to determine if the video player controls are visible or not.
Airplay support
Movies in Pressto! are compatible with Apple TV’s Airplay so the videos in your Book Apps may play fullscreen on any HDTV.
Text
Unlike limited solutions for beautifully designed books that “rasterize” the pages and only show “images” of the pages (JPG files), Pressto! lays out the actual text in the pages. This is way more efficient as it allows special text animation features, create smaller and more efficient books that may include many languages without duplicating the image files and allows full support of iOS standard accessibility features enabling native text to speech capabilities on any book and more.
Text Features
Custom Typefaces
Pressto! Books may feature any typeface that you want in addition to the standard iOS fonts. You can even create Book Apps where the reader can change the typeface.
Text effects
You can set any text block as text “Particles”, and the individual characters will appear randomly on the screen when the reader enters a page until they will align and form the text paragraph.
Accessibility
Text in Book Apps powered by Pressto! is real and not rasterized so it is “Text to Speech-ready” for visually impaired individuals that use iOS accessibility features.
